The Eaton Tedeco Zapper is an electric chip-detection system for helicopter gearboxes and transmissions that catches ferrous wear debris early. When conductive debris bridges the detector gap, a capacitor circuit discharges a low-energy pulse that locally heats and clears the particle much like blowing a fuse; if the gap reopens the event is logged and monitoring resumes, whereas debris too large to burn off triggers a persistent cockpit warning. It provides an early indication of component wear before it can lead to a catastrophic failure.
