Description
RTV 108 is a one-part condensation-cure silicone paste that cures on exposure to atmospheric moisture to form a flexible adhesive-sealant with good adhesion to common metals, glass and many plastics. It is used for general bonding and sealing work — enclosure seams, hardware attachment, formed-in-place gaskets and component staking — where a non-slumping bead and long-term elasticity are needed. It is one of the RTV 102 / 103 / 108 / 109 general-purpose grades referenced against MIL-A-46106B.

Does RTV 108 need surface preparation or a primer?
Bond strength develops during cure on clean, dry, oil-free surfaces, and many metals and glass bond well without further treatment. Low-energy plastics, painted and anodised finishes are less predictable, so a silicone primer or an abrasion step may be needed — verify adhesion on your actual substrate and cleaning process before releasing the joint design.
When should I move from RTV 108 to a two-part grade?
RTV 108 cures inward from the exposed surface using ambient moisture, so it is intended for beads, fillets and thin sections rather than deep encapsulation. If you are filling a sealed cavity or potting a module in one pour, use a two-part condensation grade such as RTV8111 or RTV8112, which cures uniformly through the full section.
