Description
RTV162 is a one-part condensation-cure silicone adhesive-sealant formulated for high bond strength without a corrosive cure by-product. It is used to bond, seal and stake components where the assembly contains bare copper, plated contacts, strain gauges or other parts that an acid-releasing silicone could attack. The grade is referenced against MIL-A-46146B, the non-corrosive RTV specification, and suits electrical and electronic assembly work as well as general sealing on corrosion-sensitive substrates.

What does 'non-corrosive' mean in practice for RTV162?
It means the cure chemistry does not release acetic acid the way general-purpose acetoxy grades such as RTV 102 or RTV 118 do, so the material is far better suited to sealing directly against copper, brass and plated hardware. It still cures by reaction with atmospheric moisture, so cure depth and speed depend on humidity and on how much of the bead is exposed to air.
Do I need a primer to bond RTV162 to metals and plastics?
Adhesion is developed during cure on clean, dry, degreased surfaces, and many metals bond without additional treatment. Low-energy plastics and some coated or anodised surfaces benefit from a silicone primer or surface preparation, so run a peel or lap-shear check on your actual substrate and cleaning process before committing to the joint design.
