Description
RTF 7000 is a silicone foam system whose density can be varied to suit the application, so the same material can be tuned from a light void filler to a firmer, more load-bearing section. Cured silicone foam gives thermal and acoustic isolation, vibration cushioning and a compliant seal in irregular cavities that a sheet gasket cannot follow. It is referenced against UL 94 V-0 and is used for firestop-style penetrations, bulkhead voids, encapsulation of assemblies where weight matters, and cushioning around equipment.

What does a variable density foam system mean in practice?
The foam can be processed to different cured densities rather than being fixed at a single value, letting you trade weight against compressive stiffness and cell structure for a given cavity. Lower density suits weight-critical void filling; higher density suits areas that see handling or compressive load. Confirm the density range and the processing conditions needed to reach it against the datasheet before designing the cavity.
How should the cavity be prepared before foaming?
Silicone foam expands, so the cavity has to be sized for the free rise and vented to prevent back-pressure distorting the cell structure or leaving unfilled pockets. Surfaces should be clean and dry, and any substrate that must bond to the foam should be evaluated on a sample — foamed silicone builds much less adhesion than a solid sealant, and a mechanical retention feature is often the safer design.
