Description
RTV 582 is a white, two-part condensation-cure silicone filler formulated to be electrostatic-dissipative, so it can be applied around static-sensitive electronics without building charge. Its defining characteristic is retained flexibility at extreme low temperatures, where conventional silicone fillers stiffen and place stress on components and joints. It is referenced against ASTM E595, which places it with materials selected for vacuum and high-altitude electronics work, typically as a filling and staking compound on boards and connector cavities.

Why is RTV 582 a condensation cure rather than an addition cure?
Condensation-cure silicones are largely unaffected by the cure inhibitors that poison addition-cure systems — amines, sulfur-bearing rubbers, tin catalysts and some solder flux residues. That makes RTV 582 more tolerant of mixed-material board assemblies. The trade-off is that condensation cure releases a volatile by-product, so the section must be able to vent it; deep, fully enclosed pours are better served by an addition-cure gel or encapsulant.
What does the ESD property actually change in an assembly?
An unfilled silicone is a strong insulator and can hold or transfer charge during handling and rework. RTV 582 is loaded to dissipate charge rather than conduct it, so it is chosen where the filler sits directly against static-sensitive devices. It is not a conductive compound and should not be treated as a grounding path or a shielding material.
