Description
RTV655 is a two-part, addition-cure silicone that pours and self-levels before curing to a clear, flexible elastomer with useful low-temperature flexibility. It is used to pot, encapsulate and seal electronic assemblies, optical housings and sensor packages where the cured material must be inspected through or must not obscure the parts beneath it. Referenced against ASTM E595, it suits vacuum and space-adjacent hardware where volatile condensables are a design concern.

Does RTV655 need an oven, and what can stop it curing?
As a two-part addition-cure system it cures after the components are mixed, and heat is the normal way to shorten that cycle. Addition chemistry is inhibition-sensitive: contact with amines, sulfur-bearing rubbers, tin-catalysed silicones and some solder fluxes can leave the material uncured or tacky at the interface, so trial-cure any new substrate before committing hardware.
Why choose RTV655 over a condensation-cure flowable such as RTV627?
RTV655 cures without a volatile by-product, so it cures uniformly through deep sections and thick pots rather than depending on diffusion, and it stays clear for visual inspection and rework assessment. Choose RTV627 instead when the assembly needs a flame-retardant, opaque grey fill and the addition-cure inhibition risk is difficult to control on the line.
