Description
RTV 116 is a one-part condensation-cure silicone that flows and self-levels before curing to a flexible elastomer on exposure to atmospheric moisture. It is used to seal, bond and encapsulate electrical and mechanical assemblies where the material needs to wet into joints and around components without tooling, and where the joint must stay elastic at elevated service temperatures. The grade is referenced against MIL-A-46106B and is generally specified as a general-purpose high-temperature sealing material rather than a structural adhesive.

Does RTV 116 need a catalyst or activator before use?
No. It is a single-component material that cures on contact with atmospheric moisture, so no mixing or metering is required. Because cure advances from the exposed surface inward, deep or tightly confined sections cure more slowly than thin beads — design the joint so at least one face is open to air, and keep the container closed between uses to avoid skinning.
When would I choose RTV 116 instead of a non-slump paste grade?
Choose RTV 116 when you want the material to flow into a cavity, level itself and self-wet around components — potting shallow enclosures, filling irregular gaps, or sealing horizontal joints. If the bead has to stay put on a vertical surface or hold a fillet profile, a thixotropic paste grade such as RTV 102 is the better fit.
