Description
RTV 157 is a one-part acetoxy condensation-cure silicone supplied as a thixotropic paste that vulcanises at room temperature on exposure to atmospheric moisture. It is used where a silicone joint has to carry more mechanical load than a general-purpose grade — structural bonding, high-strength sealing and gasketing of metal, glass and ceramic parts. It pairs with RTV 159 in the high-strength paste family and is referenced against MIL-A-46106B.

Frequently asked
RTV 157 is acetoxy cure — where should it not be used?
Acetoxy systems release acetic acid as they cure. That by-product can attack sensitive metals and unprotected electronics in confined spaces, so for those applications a non-corrosive grade such as RTV 160 is the safer selection. On glass, ceramics and most structural metals in ventilated joints, acetoxy cure is well established.
How does RTV 157 differ from RTV 159?
The two grades share the same one-part acetoxy cure chemistry and high-strength positioning; they are differentiated by appearance and cured physical properties rather than by how they cure. Compare the spec tables side by side and select on the properties that matter to your joint.
