Description
RTV 615 is a two-part addition-cure silicone that cures to an optically clear elastomer with a high refractive index, so it can encapsulate an emitter or detector while limiting reflection losses at the interface. Addition cure leaves no by-product, allowing bubble-free cures in closed optical cavities when the mixed material is properly degassed. It is referenced against ASTM E595 and is used for encapsulating LEDs, photodiodes, optical sensors and display components, and as a clear protective potting compound where the assembly must remain inspectable.

How do I avoid bubbles and haze in an optical pour?
Optical clarity is mostly a processing outcome. Mix to a uniform blend, vacuum-degas the mixed material until it collapses, pour slowly into a clean cavity to avoid entraining air, and degas again if the geometry is tight. Contamination and dust are as damaging as bubbles, so filter or protect the mixed material and cure in a clean environment.
Why is the high refractive index worth specifying?
When an encapsulant sits between a semiconductor die or lens and air, a larger refractive index mismatch at each boundary means more light lost to reflection and total internal reflection. A higher-index clear silicone narrows that mismatch and improves light extraction or collection. If your optical design was modelled at a particular index, check the datasheet value against your model before substituting a standard clear encapsulant.
